The Franciscan Order does not declare some of its members saints. The privilege of beatification and declaring the sainthood of a person is reserved to the Pope. Yet, there are numerous Franciscan men and women who have received the honor from the Church. Some are famous and known worldwide (St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Clare of Assisi, and more), while some are only known within the Franciscan Order, and still some more are primarily celebrated by the Friars of a particular country (e.g., the Franciscan Martyrs of England and Wales).
We invite you to explore some of the Franciscan Saints celebrated here at Sacred Heart, as well as the larger community of Franciscan saints.
