Fall Festival

Celebrate the harvest season with some fun, food, and fellowship with the return of our parish’s Fall Festival, on Sunday October 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the North Campus (3515 N. Florida Avenue).

Join nearly a dozen of our parish’s ministries as they serve up a potluck meal and cake-walk, alongside live music and outdoor games. Family fun includes face painting, arts & crafts, a chili cook-off, and a bike rodeo sponsored by the Tampa Police Department and our Bikes from the Heart ministry. Children are encouraged to come in costume or dress as their favorite saint as we again host a trunk-or-treat along the ellipse.

Additional information will be posted as the planning continues. We hope to see you there!

Contests:

Chili Cookoff: A culinary contest has been added to spice things up for our parishioners in the form of our inaugural chili cook-off! Entrants are invited to prepare their famous chili recipes for the friars to judge and parishioners to try, with the prize for the best chili being a $50 restaurant gift card, and a copy of “Dining with the Saints,” by Fr. Leo Patalinghug and Michael P. Foley, compliments of our Gift and Book Store. (All spaces in this contest have been booked.) Judges will include the friars and RCIA candidates.

Trunk-or-Treat Decorating Contest | Our second annual trunk-or-treat as part of the Fall Festival will feature a sweet incentive, and no, we’re not talking about the candy our volunteers will be passing out. Judged by our young Confirmation Candidates on whose vehicle best screams the theming of harvest season, one lucky volunteer will walk away with a $100 gift card to Wright’s Gourmet House, just in time to order some cakes and pies during the upcoming holiday season. There are just two volunteer spaces remaining if you wish to bring your decked-out car or truck to dish out candy to the families in attendance.

Bike Races: Our Bikes from the Heart ministry will be on the track hosting a time-trial race for attendees age 8 and up. Contestants will be timed for completing laps along a course set on the track’s front straightaway, with the best time from each age group receiving a Bikes from the Heart athletic shirt!

Quilt Raffle: Thanks to a generous donation of time and treasure, a homemade quilt made by parishioner Maureen Chastain will be raffled off, just in time to keep you warm as our nights, hopefully, begin to cool down. Quilt raffle tickets will be $5, or 5 for $20, and are on sale in the Sacred Heart Gift and Book Store now!

Trunk-or-Treat Decorations: a $100 gift card to Wright’s Gourmet is on the line for those volunteering their cars as part of our Trunk-or-Treat along the North Campus Ellipse. Participating vehicles will decorate their cars in a festive manner from where they will distribute candy to the children in attendance. Only two slots remain for volunteer cars, so make sure you sign-up today! Judges will be youth from our Confirmation candidates in Faith Formation.

Old Favorites: The 50/50 raffle returns, with tickets available for just $1 each, with proceeds benefitting our ongoing and future North Campus projects. The famous cake-walk also returns this year, with two chances to win. Two cake-walks featuring 10 cakes each will be held in the auditorium. If additional cakes are donated, a third walk will be held. Entry is limited to one person per family, to allow as many families as possible to participate.

Volunteer Reminders | All volunteers will be sent an email reminding them of their scheduled time and duties | Those donating to the potluck, dessert table, or cake-walk should bring their dishes to the appropriate locations between 11 a.m. and noon on the day of the event. If you need to deliver your item outside of this window, please contact Vicky McCarthy to make arrangements. | Chili cook-off participants are expected to prepare four to eight quarts (standard crockpot sizes) for judges and attendees to try. Sample cups and single use spoons provided. Be sure to arrive by noon.
