$250,000 Provided for Hurricane Dorian Relief Efforts

On September 25th, Bishop Gregory Parkes issued a check in the amount of $250,000 to provide support to the victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. The check was sent by mail to Archbishop Patrick Pinder of the Archdiocese of Nassau* for the specific purpose of relief and recovery efforts in the Bahamas.

“Our people are very generous here in the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Whenever we put out a call or invitation to give for disaster relief, our faithful always respond. Because of their generosity, we are able to assist hurricane recovery efforts and emergency needs in the Bahamas,” said Bishop Parkes.

*The Archdiocese of Nassau encompasses all of the islands of the Bahamas, including the Abaco islands, which suffered the greatest impact from Dorian.

In response to the devastation that has impacted the Bahamas and areas along the East Coast of the United States, the Diocese of St. Petersburg is asking for donations for their Disaster Relief Fund. One hundred percent of these disaster relief funds will benefit people affected by natural disasters including Hurricane Dorian. In 2018, the Diocese of St. Petersburg donated $300,000 to the victims of Hurricane Michael in Pensacola-Tallahassee.

Christ the King Catholic Church is collecting supplies for the Bahamas. Items most in need include:
– Tarps
– Heavy Duty Garbage Bags
– Paper Towels
– Toilet Paper
– Toiletries (deodorant, soap, disinfecting wipes, feminine hygiene products)
– Solar Phone Chargers

You can drop donations off today, September 7th, or next Saturday, September 14th, from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
